Police Investigating Fatal Crash At Gormanston

Police are continuing to investigate a fatal crash at Gormanston yesterday afternoon.

Police and emergency services were called to the Lyell Highway about 1.50pm Tuesday after reports of a serious crash involving a motorcycle and a 4WD towing a caravan.

Early investigations indicate the 4WD was turning right off the highway onto a gravel road when the motorcyclist has attempted to overtake.

Sadly, the motorcycle rider - a 56 year old NZ National who had been living in Queensland - died at the scene.

No other serious injuries were reported.

The road was closed between Lake Burbury and Queenstown while the scene was cleared, and a crash investigation was conducted.

Investigations are ongoing and a report is being prepared for the Coroner.

Our thoughts are with the man's family and loved ones.

Anyone with information or dash cam footage should contact police on 131 444.
