Police are investigating a fatal crash on Bridport Road, Lefroy overnight, in which a young child sadly died.
Acting Inspector Jason Jones said emergency services were notified of the crash about 1:20am, after a member of the public reported that a woman and two children had been injured.
"Initial inquiries indicate that the 24-year-old woman was driving west in a black Holden Barina on Bridport Road, between Big Hill Road and Dalrymple Road, when she lost control of the vehicle, and crashed into nearby trees," he said.
"A community member who was not involved in the crash was asked to provide assistance before emergency services arrived and took the two injured children to the George Town Hospital."
"One of the children, a young boy, was sadly pronounced deceased a short time later," he said.
"The other child was then taken to the Launceston General Hospital with minor injuries."
"The woman was also taken to the Launceston General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries."
"This incident will understandably have an impact on the local community, and our thoughts are with those affected."
