Police investigating wounding at Mermaid Waters

A 20-year-old man has been charged over the alleged wounding of another man at Mermaid Waters last night.

Around 9pm, two men known to each other, were involved in a verbal altercation outside a tavern at Markeri Street. The confrontation escalated at which time it is alleged a 30-year-old man sustained a stab wound to his upper abdomen.

The offender left the scene in a car which was intercepted by police at Quambone Court at Worongary around 9.30pm.

The man was taken into custody without incident.

The injured man was transported by emergency services to the Gold Coast University Hospital for treatment to his injury which is not considered to be life threatening.

A 20-year-old Worongary man has been charged with wounding.

He is expected to face Southport Magistrates Court today.
