Police are continuing to investigate a critical incident which resulted in the death of a man on the Gold Coast yesterday, March 6.
Around 9:15am, police observed a man known to them on Brown Street, Labrador when he allegedly presented a firearm at officers before fleeing on foot.
The man then approached a woman on Calvary Court, where he allegedly pointed a firearm at her son before stealing her vehicle and striking her as he drove away.
The 83-year-old woman sustained minor leg injuries and was transported to Gold Coast University Hospital for treatment.
Police tracked the stolen vehicle and successfully deployed tyre deflation devices where the vehicle came to a stop on Brisbane Road in Arundel.
Around 9:30 am, the man allegedly attempted to steal a second vehicle while allegedly armed with a firearm, when during this confrontation with police, an officer discharged their firearm.
Immediate medical assistance was provided by officers and paramedics; however, the 31-year-old man was declared deceased at the scene.
The owner of the second vehicle was not physically injured.
During the incident in Brisbane Road, a 14-year-old boy who was a passenger in the vehicle, sustained minor injuries from glass fragments.
As the investigation is ongoing, no further information is available at this stage.
This matter is under investigation by Ethical Standards Command on behalf of the State Coroner, with the investigation subject to oversight by the Crime and Corruption Commission.
