Police Involved Shooting, North Ward

A man has died after being shot by police in North Ward, Townsville, this morning, July 19.

Around 9.50am this morning, police were called to McKinley Street and The Strand following reports of a man armed with a machete and knife.

Initial information indicates the man advanced towards police whilst armed and was shot in the chest.

Medical assistance was immediately rendered, however the man was declared deceased.

No police officers or members of the public were physically injured during the incident.

The matter is under investigation by the Ethical Standards Command, with oversight by the Crime and Corruption Commission.
