Police Lay Arson Charges, Runcorn

Detectives from Acacia Ridge Criminal Investigation Branch have charged a man following the arson of a business in Runcorn on September 24.

It will be alleged around 1.30am, a group of people rammed the front doors of the Condamine Street store with a silver Mazda BT-50, before setting the vehicle alight and fleeing the scene on foot.

A search warrant was executed at an Eagleby address yesterday and a 37-year-old man was taken into custody.

It will be further alleged the silver Mazda BT-50 was stolen from Tweed Heads on September 17.

The 37-year-old Eagleby man has been charged with one count each of arson (motor vehicle), arson (structure or building), possess utensils, bringing stolen goods into Queensland and three counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

He is due before Brisbane Magistrates Court today, October 3.

Police have released vision of a second man who may be able to assist with investigations.
