Police Lay Assault Charge At Mareeba

Police have charged a man following an alleged assault that occurred in Mareeba on November 19.

Shortly after 11am, officers were called to a business along Byrnes Street in Mareeba following reports a man was armed with a cutting implement.

It will be alleged he threatened a woman before leaving the scene.

The woman was not physically injured because of the incident.

Police attended and quickly located the man hiding in a nearby building. He was taken into custody.

A 30-year-old Atherton man has been charged with one count each of attempted enter premises and commit indictable offence, threatening violence, wilful damage, serious assault, commit public nuisance and obstruct police officer.

He will appear in Mareeba Magistrates Court today, November 20.
