Detectives have charged a man with grievous bodily harm and robbery charges after he allegedly assaulted an elderly man in a Brisbane City carpark.
At 9pm on April 21, a 20-year-old man entered a hotel underground carpark on George Street. It will be alleged the man stole a number of items from two unlocked cars before approaching a third parked car in which a 87-year-old man was sitting.
The 20-year-old man entered the vehicle and a struggle ensured. It will be alleged the man has then drove forward in the vehicle and the elderly man fell from the moving vehicle. The man then drove off at speed and crashed through the boom gate before leaving the carpark.
The 87-year-old Bethania man was transported to the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital where he remains in a critical condition with significant head injuries.
At 6pm on April 22 the vehicle was located parked at Musgrave Park, South Brisbane.
At 10:30am today, police located the 20-year-old man on George Street in Brisbane City where he was detained and treated for injuries sustained attempting to flee from police.
The Mareeba man has been charged with one count each of grievous bodily harm, serious assault over 60, robbery with violence, unlawful use of motor vehicle, dangerous driving, possession of a dangerous drug (methylamphetamine), and unregulated high risk activity. He is also charged with three counts of enter premises and two counts each of receive tainted property and wilful damage.
He is due to appear before the Brisbane Magistrates Court tomorrow.
