Police lay charges after carjackings, pursuit across Sydney

Three teenagers will appear in court today charged following two alleged carjackings and a pursuit across Sydney yesterday.

Officers from Burwood Police area Command were called to Montrose Road at Abbotsford, about 12.45pm (Saturday 10 July 2021), after reports of a carjacking.

Police were told a woman was allegedly forced out of her Toyota Corolla by two males, one of whom was armed with a machete.

A pursuit of the vehicle was initiated but was terminated due to its manner of driving.

About 15 minutes later, officers from Cumberland Police Area Command attended Palmer Street at Guildford West after reports a woman and child had their black BMW SUV stolen and were allegedly threatened with a machete.

With assistance from PolAir, the SUV was followed for three hours, before hitting another vehicle at the intersection of the Cumberland Highway and M4 at South Wentworthville.

The SUV was stopped, and three male teenagers were arrested and taken to Granville Police Station.

During a search of the vehicle, police seized a hunting knife and machete, which will undergo forensic examination.

No persons were injured during the incidents.

A 16-year-old male was charged with two counts of assault with intent to rob in company, two counts of take and drive conveyance without consent of owner and predatory driving.

A second 16-year-old male was charged with two counts of robbery in company and two counts of be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner.

A 17-year-old male was charged with assault with intent to rob armed with offensive weapon, two counts of be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner and robbery armed with offensive weapon.

They were refused bail to appear before Children's Court today (Sunday 11 July 2021).
