Police lay charges after investigation into distribution of child abuse material online

A man will appear in court today charged after allegedly producing and distributing child abuse material online in the state's Macarthur Region.

Following a referral in 2019, officers from Fairfield City Police Area Command commenced an investigation into the possession and distribution of child abuse material online.

As part of ongoing inquiries, detectives executed a search warrant at a home in Sydney's west on Thursday 7 May 2020.

During the search, officers seized mobile phones, a laptop and electronic storage devices.

A forensic examination of the items – including a review of more than 9,800 images and videos – was subsequently conducted.

Following extensive investigations, officers arrested a 34-year-old man at a home near Tahmoor about 9.30am yesterday (Tuesday 16 March 2021).

The man was taken to Camden Police Station and charged with possess child abuse material, two counts of produce child abuse material and intentionally record intimate image without consent.

Police will allege in court the man produced child abuse material and distributed images and videos through a social media application online.

He was refused bail to appear at Moss Vale Local Court today (Wednesday 17 March 2021).

Investigations are continuing.
