Police lay charges after Melton pursuit

A man has been charged following an alleged pursuit in Melbourne's north-west on Wednesday morning.

A 23-year-old Armstrong Creek man was charged with:

• Reckless conduct endangering serious Injury;

• Dangerous or negligent driving whilst pursued by police;

• Theft of motor vehicle;

• Handle stolen goods;

• Drug driving (methylamphetamine /MDMA);

• Unlicensed driving;

• Exceed speed limit;

• Drive in a manner dangerous;

• Drive speed dangerous;

• Fail to stop on police direction;

• Careless driving; and

• Affix false number plate

He appeared at Melbourne Magistrates' Court where he was further remanded until 13 November.

His alleged accomplice, a 30-year-old Brookfield man, was interviewed and is expected to be charged on summons with:

• Theft of motor vehicle;

• Handle stolen goods; and

• Negligently deal with proceeds of crime

The charges come after officers were patrolling in the vicinity of Clarks Road, Brookfield, when they spotted an allegedly stolen white Skoda travelling at an alleged speed of 131km/h in a 60km/h zone about 4am.

The driver failed to stop when police attempted to intercept the vehicle.

Officers pursued the vehicle and deployed stop sticks before the car became bogged in a paddock a short time later in Melton South.

The driver was arrested nearby while the passenger allegedly fled on foot.

Police eventually located the second man hiding in a yard nearby about one hour later.
