Police lay charges after serious traffic crash at Margate

Police have charged a man following a serious motorcycle crash at Margate on January 1 which left a 4-year-old boy in hospital with critical injuries.

It will be alleged the 32-year-old man was riding the motorboke with the boy as his passenger along Macdonnel Road when they collided with a four-wheel-drive at the intersection of Dover Road around 7.15pm.

The man and boy suffered serious injuries as a result of the collision and were transported to Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital and the Queensland Children's Hospital, both in a critical condition.

The female driver of the four-wheel drive was not physically injured. The 4-year-old boy remains in hospital in a serious condition.

Ongoing investigations by the Forensic Crash Unit led to the arrest of a man on January 14 who was charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle causing grievous bodily harm whilst adversely affected by an intoxicating substance, endangering children by exposure, possession of a knife in a public place, driving with a disqualified licence, driving unregistered and driving uninsured.

He was remanded in custody on January 15 to reappear in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on March 7.
