The Northern Territory Joint Anti-Child Exploitation Team (JACET) has on 22 April arrested a 51-year-old man at a McMinns Lagoon property.
The investigation was commenced following the receipt of an email containing a video of animal cruelty which had surfaced on the internet.
Members from NT Police and the Australian Federal Police (AFP) executed a search warrant at the man's residence yesterday where further material was found including a significant number of videos depicting animal cruelty and bestiality. The acts are alleged to have been committed by the male occupant.
Police seized computers, mobile phones, hard drives and digital cameras containing evidence of animal cruelty.
The man has been charged with:
- Aggravated (Animal) Cruelty - s10 Animal Welfare Act 1999 (NT) x 15
- Bestiality - s138 Criminal Code Act 1983 (NT) x 2
He has been remanded in custody to appear in Darwin Local Court on Tuesday 26 April 2022.
Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Jon Beer said, "The contents of the videos is abhorrent. If members of the public came across this material they would be revolted. It is incomprehensible that an individual could imagine such acts let alone carry them out. The depravity is deeply disturbing."
