Police lay charges - Arson - East Arnhem

Northern Territory Police have charged a youth in relation a series of fires in the East Arnhem region.

At about 3:00am yesterday, police received reports of multiple structure fires in a remote community. There were no reported injuries.

Remote members, the Serious Crime Squad, and a Crime Scene and Fire Investigator were flown into the community to investigate the incidents.

This afternoon, detectives from the Serious Crime Squad arrested a 16-year-old male. He has since been charged with:

  • 2 x Arson

He was bailed to appear before court on 6 October 2021.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Brett Cottier said, "Detectives and crime scene examiners were deployed to the remote community yesterday and maintained a crime scene overnight. The seriousness of this offending has resulted in the endangering of the local community and has destroyed vehicles, buildings and machinery."
