Police Lay Charges - Assault Police In Alice Springs 15 August

Northern Territory Police have charged a 40-year-old male in relation to an assault police incident that occurred in Alice Springs overnight.

Around 12.40am, two police officers were driving in a marked police car south along the Stuart Highway. As they drove past a service station, the male offender, who was standing on the side of the road, allegedly threw rocks at the police car causing minor damage.

The offender was arrested by the police officer and conveyed to the Alice Springs watch house. During processing, the offender allegedly kicked one of the police officers in the knee. The officer did not require medical treatment.

The 40-year-old offender has been charged with Endangering Occupants of vehicle, Damage to Property and Assault Police.

Senior Sergeant Daniel Bell said, "Throwing any object at a moving vehicle is incredibly dangerous and can result in serious injuries.

"Attacks on our members will not be tolerated and this offender will face charges for his actions."
