A man has been charged after a woman was allegedly robbed in the state's Illawarra yesterday.
Police have been told a 76-year-old woman was leaving a grocery store on the Princes Highway, Unanderra, about 4.20pm (Thursday 9 March 2023), when she was approached by a man who allegedly stole her handbag from the shopping trolley.
During a short struggle, the woman was allegedly pushed to the ground before the man fled with her handbag.
The woman was taken to Wollongong Hospital where she was treated for concussion, and lacerations and bruising to her face, hands and body.
Officers attached to Lake Illawarra Police District commenced an investigation, and following a public appeal for information, arrested a 46-year-old man at a fast-food restaurant on Crown Street, Wollongong, about 1.30pm today (Friday 10 March 20223).
He was taken to Wollongong Police Station where he has since been charged with aggravated robbery and inflict actual bodily harm.
The man was refused bail and is due to appear at Wollongong Local Court on Saturday 11 March 2023.
