Local police have charged a man with nearly 30 theft-related offences following inquiries into the theft of mobile phones valued at nearly $75,000 in the state's Murray River region.
In September last year, officers attached to Murray River Police District's Proactive Crime Team commenced investigations following reports parcels had been tampered with at telecommunications stores at Albury and Wodonga.
Police were told parcels containing mobile phones – totalling more than $74,500 – were stolen while in transit between May and October 2021.
Following inquiries, it was identified that the phones were allegedly on-sold in Melbourne, Victoria.
Following further extensive inquiries, police attended a home at Mahogany Court, Thurgoona, about 9.15am yesterday (Tuesday 1 February 2022).
A 24-year-old man was arrested and taken to Albury Police Station, where he was charged with 29 offences;
- larceny as bailee property value >$ 5000 (x5),
- larceny as bailee property value >$ 2000 (x11), and,
- dispose property – theft – serious indictable offence (x13).
The Thurgoona man was granted strict conditional bail and is due to appear at Albury Local Court on Monday 21 February 2022.
