Police Lay Charges Over Traffic Offences In Darwin 28 August

Northern Territory Police have charged a man with multiple driving and drug offences in Darwin on Monday afternoon.

Around 11:45am, enroute to a traffic operation, Dog Operations Unit members observed a vehicle driving erratically inbound on the Stuart Highway near the Ross Smith Avenue intersection.

The vehicle was apprehended along with the 36-year-old male driver who returned a positive drug reading.

A Drug Dog was deployed to search the vehicle which identified a traffickable amount of methamphetamine and a less than trafficable amount of cannabis that was seized by police.

The driver has since been charged with:

  • Drive motor vehicle unlicensed
  • Drive under the influence of drug
  • Possess Schedule 1 Substance - Traffickable QTY
  • Possess Schedule 2 Substance - Public place

He is expected to face court on the 12 September 2024.

Sergeant Riva Zio said "We would like to reinforce that community safety is our priority.

"To ensure everyone reaches their destination safely, we're stepping up traffic enforcement in key areas.

"If you are doing the wrong thing by drink or drug driving, it is only a matter of time before we find you."
