Police Make Arrest - Assault In Alice Springs 9 December

Northern Territory Police have arrested a 45-year-old male in relation to an assault that occurred on a flight departing Alice Springs on Friday 6 December.

Around 7.10pm, a commercial passenger flight departing Alice Springs was preparing to taxi when a flight attendant identified an intoxicated passenger and directed him to move from the emergency exit row. The 45-year-old male passenger allegedly verbally abused the flight attendant and made physical threats towards him.

The offender was subsequently directed by cabin crew to exit the plane, and while doing so, has allegedly assaulted the 50-year-old male flight attendant by striking him to the face.

The offender and his wife were escorted from the aircraft into the terminal where they were met by police. The victim did not suffer any injuries or require medical treatment, and the flight continued as scheduled to Darwin.

The 45-year-old male was charged with Assault a Worker and was bailed to appear in Darwin Local Court on Friday 13 December.
