Police Make Arrest - Assault Police In Alice Springs 13 January

The Northern Territory Police Force has arrested a 29-year-old female in relation to an assault police incident that occurred in Alice Springs on Sunday.

At 4.30pm, an off-duty police officer and off-duty police auxiliary officer observed a female behaving in a disorderly manner outside a supermarket on Bath Street.

The female offender was involved in a physical altercation with two security guards after being directed to leave the premises.

The off-duty officers identified themselves as police and again directed the offender to leave the area. The offender threatened them, and was subsequently ground stabilised by the officers, during which the offender allegedly bit and scratched one of the officers.

On-duty police attended the scene and arrested her. She was charged with Breach of bail, Assault police and summary offences.

Acting Commander Michael Budge said, "I would like to commend both officers for continuing to protect the Alice Springs community, even while off the clock.

"Assaulting a police officer is disgraceful. Our members work tirelessly to serve and protect Territorians, both on and off-duty, and the behaviour displayed by this offender will not be tolerated."
