Police make arrest at vehicle check point

A 44-year-old man has been arrested by police after an incident at a Vehicle Check Point (VCP) yesterday, 29 June 2021.

About 5.30pm, the man was stopped at the VCP located on Great Northern Highway in Chittering and asked to show an officer his paperwork supporting his exemption, when it is alleged he began verbally abusing the police officer. It is further alleged the man exited his vehicle and approached officers before being physically restrained and taken into custody.

The man from Bindoon was charged with the following offences:-

• Disorderly Behaviour in a Public Place; and

• Obstruct Public Officers.

He appeared in court today and is next due to appear before the Midland Magistrates Court on 27 July 2021.

Operation Outbreak Commander Mike Bell said "Acts of this kind will not be tolerated and are totally unacceptable in our current state of emergency. This behaviour is not indicative of the wider community who are doing the right thing and complying with directions."
