The Northern Territory Police Force has arrested a 33-year-old man in relation to a dangerous driving incident that occurred in Alice Springs last night.
At 10.45pm, Operation Ludlow members attempted to conduct a traffic apprehension on a silver Mitsubishi Lancer on Memorial Avenue in Gillen as part of a roadside breath test. The vehicle failed to stop, and a pursuit was initiated.
During the pursuit, which was monitored and assisted by the Drone Unit, the vehicle allegedly drove in a dangerous manner through town, resulting in damage being caused to several bollards at Rotorac Park in Braitling.
The pursuit ended when the offender abandoned the vehicle nearby on Erumba Street and fled the scene. After a short foot chase, police apprehended and arrested the 33-year-old.
He subsequently tested positive for methamphetamine and is expected to be charged later today with multiple offences.
Acting Commander Michael Budge said, "This apprehension was the result of fantastic communication between police on the ground and the Drone Unit, who have swiftly removed a dangerous driver from our roads within twenty minutes.
"This driver placed himself, members of the public, and police at risk, and there is no excuse for this reckless behaviour.
"Police will continue to be anywhere, anytime, challenging bad behaviours."
