Police make arrest - Domestic Violence - Nightcliff 24 September

A joint effort between strike forces Lyra, Trident, Darwin General Duties members and the Dog Operations Unit has resulted in the arrest of a man charged with multiple domestic violence offences in Darwin in the early hours of Friday morning.

The alleged offender who is facing revocation of parole and charged with three counts of domestic violence assaults on his partner had proven elusive to members.

Shortly after midnight on Friday morning the man's partner contacted police and informed them he was asleep in the backyard of a Nightcliff residence.

Police formulated an arrest plan which included likely escapes routes being covered by Patrol Dog teams.

Members located the man in the yard where he was arrested.

Strike Force Lyra's Sergeant Carol Maxwell said that the arrest was an excellent example of the police units working together.

"The arrest of an offender who had been actively evading police of late was made relatively simple thanks to the cooperation between the 3 units along with Darwin General Duties," Sgt Maxwell said.

The man was remanded and will appear in court on Monday 26 September.
