Mirrabooka Detectives have charged a man after an evade police incident in Balga yesterday, Wednesday 10 August 2022.
On Monday 8 August 2022, a white BMW 1 series hatchback was stolen from a home in Woodvale.
About 3.20pm yesterday, police sighted the stolen vehicle travelling south along Princess Road, Balga. Police attempted to intercept the vehicle by activating their police vehicle's lights and sirens.
It will be alleged the driver of the stolen BMW, failed to stop and accelerated heavily on Princess Road, mounting a kerb briefly to get around a turning civilian vehicle and continue in a southerly direction.
It will be further alleged the vehicle increased speed, travelled through a roundabout, before having to brake sharply due to a build-up of civilian traffic and then drove onto the incorrect side of the road and collided at speed into the side of a civilian vehicle, a Hyundai TQ panel van. The civilian vehicle was struck with enough force that it was pushed sideways off of the road and onto a grassed area with the stolen vehicle firmly wedged in its side.
Police apprehend the three occupants of the vehicle. The civilian driver was not injured in the crash.
A 26-year-old man from Butler has been charged with:-
• Two counts of No Authority to Drive;
• One count of Steal Motor Vehicle and Drive Recklessly;
• One count of Reckless driving to escape pursuit by police;
• One count of Driver of a vehicle failed to comply with a direction to stop (circumstance of aggravation); and
• One count of Steal Motor Vehicle.
He is due to appear before the Perth Magistrates Court today, 11 August 2022.
