Police make arrest - Stolen vehicle in Alice Springs 15 February

Last night, Northern Territory Police responded swiftly to reports of a silver SUV crashing through a fence to make a escape from a business on Brown Street, Ciccone.

The vehicle dodged attempts at capture, even performing risky manoeuvres like burnouts on lawns and driving on footpaths. Police deployed tyre deflation devices (TDD) to corner the vehicle however, nearby youths on foot were tipping off the occupants about TDD locations.

The vehicle was later abandoned in the CBD, and the offenders fled on foot. However, with precision and skill, police located and apprehended four youths, aged between 10 and 13.

Two 11-year-olds and a 10-year-old were conveyed to their homes and handed over to a responsible adult. The 13-year-old male was charged with theft, drive motor vehicle without consent and damage to property. He will appear before court today.

Detective Senior Sergeant Michael Budge said, "Our officers exhibited exceptional dedication and skill in swiftly addressing the reckless actions of the youths involved in this incident."
