Police Make Arrests - Assault Police - Top End

Northern Territory Police have arrested 3 people across the Top End yesterday in relation to separate incidents where a police officer has been assaulted

Around 4:25pm, police received reports that 4 female youths entered a service station on Trower Road, Casuarina, and allegedly stole multiple items from the store before assaulting the shop attendant and fleeing the scene.

Two 13-year-old females were arrested, one of which spat on a police officer.

Two offenders remain outstanding. Investigations continue.

Around 4:20pm in a separate incident, police responded to reports of an intoxicated male along Mitchell Street, Darwin. The male was apprehended and conveyed into the sober up shelter in Berrimah.

While getting into the vehicle the male allegedly spat on the police officer.

He has since been charged with assault.

Around 7:40pm in another separate incident, police were conducting a bail review in Nhulunbuy Police Station with a youth and his responsible adult.

The youth has allegedly spat on an attending officer.

Commander Daniel Bacon said, "It is completely unacceptable behaviour to assault a police officer while executing their duty in protecting the community.

"The act of spitting is particularly vile and disgusting.

"Two of our officers are now undergoing blood tests to ensure that there has been no exposure to diseases.

"This is stressful on both the officer themselves, as well as their direct family and loved ones while they wait for results.

"The actions of these individuals are reprehensible. If you decide to act in this way you will be prosecuted."
