Police Minister, Mayor Stress Road Safety Urgency

The Queensland Minister for Police and Emergency Services Daniel Purdie today (Monday, December 23, 2024) joined Toowoomba Region Mayor Cr Geoff McDonald to issue a special plea for motorists to take extra care on the roads across Christmas.

The high-level road safety message was delivered at the Toowoomba Police Station in the wake of yet another fatal accident that occurred in the Lockyer Valley on Friday afternoon.

"Whilst you enjoy the Christmas break, please remember to be safe on the roads. We've seen an increase in road fatalities in our Region over the last several months and it's devastating", said Mayor McDonald.

Mayor McDonald also stated that the region hadexperienced some extreme weather lately and it's important to stress in the event of wet weather and storms - if it's flooded, forget it.

There are many resources people can refer to if a severe weather event occurs.

Residents can also listen to ABC Radio for relevant disaster updates and warnings.

Mayor McDonald also thanked our emergency personnel for their service over the festive season.

"Thank you to all our police officers, emergency services and first responders who continue to work across the holidays to respond to incidents. You have sacrificed time with your loved ones, to help save someone else's loved one and that is invaluable", said Mayor McDonald.
