Nominations have opened for the Police Officer of the Year award, according to SA Police.
Presented annually since 1978 by the Rotary Club of Unley, the award seeks to increase awareness of the policing role in the community by giving the public an opportunity to recognise the efforts of an outstanding and committed police officer in their area.
The award seeks to recognize an individual or group – regardless of rank – who have shown outstanding acts of courage, courtesy, kindness, understanding, compassion or devotion to duty.
It may take into account work either on the job, or while off duty through volunteering.
Anyone wishing to nominate a police officer can do so via the Rotary of Unley website prior to Friday 27 July - www.unley.rotaryclub.org.au
Nominations are considered by the rotary club, and following consultation with the Commissioner of Police, will be announced during a ceremony at the Royal Adelaide Show on 7 September.
Last year Brevet Sergeant Peter Phillips, from Mt Gambier, was presented with the award in recognition of his volunteer work to develop the Beachport Surf Lifesaving Club.
