Police Probe 4-Tonne Illegal Tobacco Bust in S. Granville

Police have commenced an investigation after approximately 4 tonnes of illegal tobacco were seized.

About 7.30am today (Tuesday 4 March 2025), police were called to Ferndell Street, South Granville, following reports of an alleged theft.

Police were initially told a number of people were stealing boxes from a truck.

On arrival, officers attached to Cumberland Police Area Command located a truck with a large number of boxes, where initial inquiries allege, they were containing illegal Tobacco.

Following inquiries, about 8.20am, police arrested three people – two men aged 22, and a 17-year-old boy – at the scene.

It is believed another person left the scene in a Toyota Corolla hatchback before the three people were arrested.

Police also have seized approximately 200 boxes of tobacco, equating to about 4 tonnes of tobacco.

They were all taken to Granville Police Station where one of the 22-year-old men was charged with breach of bail.

He was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court today (Tuesday 4 March 2025).

Following further inquiries, the other man and the teenager were released without charges.
