Police Probe Anzac Memorial Vandalism in Walgett

Police are appealing for information after an Anzac memorial in a Walgett park was damaged earlier this week.

Today (Thursday 13 February 2025), officers attached to Central North Police District received a report that an Anzac memorial in Walgett Memorial Park on Fox Street, Walgett, had been damaged.

Police arrived and found that a statue of an Anzac soldier – imported from France in 1922 – had its arm damaged and its marble firearm stolen.

Following initial inquiries, police believe the statue had been damaged sometime between Monday 10 February 2025 and today.

As investigation continue, police are urging anyone with dashcam footage, CCTV or information about the incident to contact police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
