Police Probe Attempted Carjacking, Assault in Flowerdale

Alexandra Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating an attempted carjacking and assault in Flowerdale last week.

It is believed a 25-year-old woman was driving south along Broadford-Flowerdale Road about 11.30pm on Sunday, 29 September, when she stopped her vehicle to avoid hitting a wombat on the road.

While the victim was stopped on the side of the road, an unknown male approached her black 2015 Honda City sedan and opened the side door.

Officers have been told the man got into the vehicle, before assaulting the woman and threatening to steal her car.

The man then got out of the car and punctured all four of the vehicle's tyres, before the victim ran from the car and hid in nearby parkland.

It is believed the man fled the scene on foot north along Broadford-Flowerdale Road.

After a few hours of waiting, the victim returned to her vehicle and drove a short distance before calling Triple Zero about 3am.

Police came to the victim's location, before she was taken to hospital for treatment and observation.

Investigators have released a stock image of the victim's car, as well as a computer-generated image of a man they believe may be able to assist with their enquiries.

The man is described as being aged between 40-50 years old and is approximately 182cm tall with black and grey short hair.

He spoke with a Greek or Italian accent, was unshaven, had an olive complexion and was wearing a green woollen jumper.

The investigation remains ongoing.

Detectives are keen to speak with anyone who recognises the man as well as anyone who saw the victim's car in Flowerdale between 11pm on September 29 and 5am on 30 September.
