Police Probe Daly River Unrest, Seek Public Info

Northern Territory Police Force are investigating after multiple disturbances in the Daly River Region this week.

On Friday 27 December, an axe was allegedly thrown through the back window of a vehicle travelling through Nauiyu Community, striking the passenger inside. This incident escalated into a large disturbance involving offenders fighting with bats, iron bars, and multiple crossbows.

No injuries were reported to police.

On Wednesday 1 January, local members attended a large disturbance involving two groups outside a licenced premises in Daly River. The incident resulted in the arrest of two females aged 30 and 36.

At around 4:30pm Thursday 2 January, local police, with assistance from Peppimenarti members observed approximately 20 people engaged in an altercation, throwing objects and assaulting each other. When police approached a nearby Ambulance to assist, their vehicle was struck by multiple objects thrown by the group, damaging the windscreen.

Members withdrew from the location to prevent further damage to the vehicle and injury to themselves.

Eight alleged offenders from the incident remain outstanding.

Investigations are ongoing.
