Detectives from the Echo Taskforce are today releasing CCTV and appealing for public assistance following the assault of an unknown rider by members of the Mongols OMCG on the Monash Freeway last month.
Around 12.15pm on Saturday, 19 October, five members of the Mongols OMCG are captured on dashcam footage travelling inbound on the Monash Freeway near the Wellington Road exit.
One member of the OMCG targets an unidentified L-plate bike rider for no apparent reason by attempting to punch and kick him as they ride past.
All OMCG members are travelling at a high rate of speed along the freeway.
The unidentified rider was forced to take evasive action to avoid being assaulted and forced off his motorcycle.
Investigators have been unable to identify the victim and are keen to speak him.
Detectives are also keen to speak to anyone who was travelling on the Monash Freeway at 12.15pm on 19 October and who may have dashcam footage of the incident.
Anyone who witnessed the incident or has information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
Quotes attributable to Detective Acting Inspector Alan Rumble, Echo Taskforce:
"This is completely unacceptable behaviour by an outlaw motorcycle gang - thinking they are above the law and putting innocent members of our community at risk.
"Targeting an innocent L-plate motorbike rider who was simply going about his day is seriously reckless and cowardly behaviour.
"We have made it a priority to follow up every avenue of enquiry available to us and to hold those responsible to account. If you have dashcam footage of this incident or you witnessed it, please get in touch with police.
"We are not intimidated by outlaw motorcycle gangs, and we will not allow our community to be either."
