Police Probe Serious Three-Vehicle Crash at Blackheath

An investigation is underway following a serious crash in the Blue Mountains overnight.

About 7pm (Monday 12 August 2024), emergency services were called to the Great Western Highway, Blackheath, following reports of a crash.

Initial inquiries suggest that a semi-trailer and Subaru sedan collided head on before the truck collided with a Toyota Corolla.

Both drivers of the Subaru and Toyota were trapped before being released by Police Rescue and Fire & Rescue NSW.

The driver of the Subaru – a 27-year-old man – was treated at the scene for serious leg and chest injuries.

He was taken to Westmead Hospital in a stable condition.

His passenger – a 2-year-old boy – was treated for head injuries and taken to a children's Hospital in Westmead in critical condition.

The driver of the Toyota – a 29-year-old man – was treated for internal injuries and taken to Nepean Hospital in a stable condition.

The driver of the semi-trailer – a 46-year-old man – was treated at the scene for minor injuries and taken to Katoomba Hospital for mandatory testing.

The Great Western Highway will remain closed for a several hours, with motorists urged to avoid the area.

A crime scene has been established as specialist police from the Crash Investigation Unit investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
