Police Probe Suspicious Deniliquin House Fire

Police are investigating a suspicious house fire in the State's south.

About 2:40am on Saturday (6 July 2024), emergency services were called to Edwardes Street, Deniliquin, following reports of a house fire.

Upon arrival, officers attached to Murray River Police District found the fire had spread to a second house.

Two police officers entered the first home and dragged a 66-year-old man to safety. They entered the second home and removed a 57-year-old woman.

The officers were treated for smoke inhalation. No one else was injured in the incident.

Fire and Rescue attended and extinguished the blaze.

A crime scene has been established, with investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident ongoing.

Police seized CCTV as part of their investigations.

As inquiries continue, police are appealing for anyone with CCTV, dashcam or information about three males acting suspiciously in the area at the time of the incident to come forward and contact Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
