Northern Territory Police are calling for information in relation to a suspicious heavy machinery fire in Yuendumu on Saturday morning.
Around 6:15am, Joint Emergency Services Communications Centre received reports that an employee attended a work site on Nyrippi Road and found all except one of the heavy machines, to be destroyed by fire.
On Friday 13 December 2024 at 5:30pm, four employees operating the site completed their shift and stopped their heavy machinery for the day. The machinery being:
- Isuzu Tip Truck bearing
- Bobcat E50 Mini Excavator
- Caterpillar 311D Excavator
- Chase CX57C Excavator
The machinery was parked along Nyrippi Road within approximately 50 meters of each other.
Southern crime members attended, and a crime scene was established.
A preliminary assessment of the scene by the NT Fire and Rescue Service Fire Investigator suggests the fire was deliberately lit and at the time of reporting the investigation remains ongoing.
