Greensborough police will today return a much-loved gorilla to its natural habitat after it was stolen from St Helena last month.
Affectionately referred to as "Garry", the 1.5m gorilla statue was stolen from a retirement community on St Helena Road about 4pm on 6 June.
Not willing to cop this kind of monkey business, investigators threw their all into locating Garry.
After extensive investigations, police narrowed their sights towards a residence of interest in Reservoir.
It was time for this investigation to really take off, so the Air Wing was called in to conduct a fly over.
Needless to say our pilots went absolutely bananas when they spotted Garry the Gorilla from their aerial vantage point.
A search warrant was subsequently executed at a residence on Monday and the silverback was safely secured.
Greensborough uniform police will be returning Garry to his rightful position at the entrance of the retirement community this afternoon.
Investigations into the theft of the statue remain ongoing.
