Police Responding To Fatal Traffic Crash At Bororen

Police are investigating a fatal two-vehicle traffic crash in Bororen today, August 30.

Around 5.10am this morning, a utility and truck carrying ammonia nitrate crashed along the Bruce Highway near Daisy Dell Road.

The driver of the utility, a man, died at the scene.

The driver of the truck, a 47-year-old New South Wales man, was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries.

As a result of the crash, hazardous material from the truck spilled and the truck's fuel tanks caught alight.

A 2.5-kilometre exclusion zone was established and around 50 people were evacuated to Bororen township.

The truck exploded around 9.30am and has caused significant damage to the roadway.

The Bruce Highway between Daisy Dell Road and Turkey Beach Road will be closed for an extended period.

Motorists are urged to plan alternate routes.

The exclusion zone was revoked at 5.20pm, allowing residents to return to the area.

Investigations are continuing.
