Police Responding To Fatal Traffic Crash At Mackay 19 July

Three teenagers have died following a multi-vehicle traffic crash in Glenella last night, July 18.

Just after 10.40pm, police and emergency services were called to Mackay Ring Road following reports of a head-on crash between a Mazda 2 and a Great Wall Cannon.

Initial investigations indicate the Mazda had been travelling south when it attempted to overtake a semi-trailer, before colliding with the Great Wall travelling in the opposite direction.

The three occupants of the Mazda, including two 19-year-old boys and a 19-year-old girl, died at the scene.

The driver of the Great Wall, a 29-year-old Blacks Beach man, was transported to Mackay Base Hospital in a serious condition.

The driver of the semi-trailer, a 68-year-old Kelso man, was uninjured.

The occupants of a fourth vehicle, an Isuzu D-Max, were not injured after veering off the road to avoid the crash.

Officers from the Mackay Forensic Crash Unit (FCU) are investigating.
