Police responding to fatal traffic crash at Mareeba

A man has died following a single vehicle crash in Mareeba this afternoon.

Just before 4pm a passing motorist raised the alarm after coming across a 59-year-old Mareeba man unconscious at the wheel of a white 2017 ford ranger dual cab utility travelling east on Herberton Street near the intersection of Walsh Street.

Ahead of the emergency response an off-duty nurse assisted, attempting to resuscitate the man and he was transported to hospital in a critical condition, passing away a short time later.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
