Two people have sustained critical injuries following a single vehicle traffic crash in Helidon overnight, Thursday January 12.
Preliminary information indicates around 2am a grey 2009 Toyota Camry, allegedly stolen from Toowoomba on the morning of Tuesday January 10, was travelling west along the Warrego Highway near Helidon when it left the road and struck a tree before catching fire.
A passing motorist raised the alarm and emergency services promptly extinguished the blaze, however the two occupants, a man and woman in their twenties, sustained critical injuries including serious burns.
Both were airlifted to the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital for treatment.
The westbound lanes of the Warrego highway were closed throughout the night and reopened around 7am.
The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating and appeal for witnesses, especially those with dashcam vision of the crash or the moments leading up to it, to come forward.
