Police Search For Witness After Heidelberg West Death

Homicide Squad detectives are today releasing images of a male witness they are looking to identify as part of their investigation into the death of a man in Heidelberg West earlier this year.

Police were initially called to reports of two men fighting outside a property on Alamein Road about 11.45am on 15 June.

A 49-year-old Heidelberg West man, who lived at the property, was transported to hospital with life threatening injuries.

He passed away a short time later.

A 40-year-old Heidelberg West man was arrested at the scene and subsequently charged with murder.

It's believed the two men were known to each other.

Detectives are today releasing an image of a man they believe was at the home of the victim shortly before the incident occurred.

Investigators believe he was the last person to speak with the victim before the fatal assault.

The man was not involved in the incident in any way and is being treated as a witness only.

Despite significant enquiries over the past few months, detectives have been unable to identify him.

Police are keen to speak to anyone who may recognise the man and has information about his identity, and are also asking the man himself to come forward.

Anyone with information about the man is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
