Police are appealing for public assistance after a rock was dropped onto a vehicle in Sydney's south west.
About 10pm yesterday (Saturday 13 July 2024), emergency services responded to reports of a motorist being injured when a large rock smashed through the vehicle's windscreen whilst it was driving along Henry Lawson Drive, Revesby.
The 24-year-old driver – and sole occupant – suffered minor injuries to her right arm.
Officers from Bankstown Police Area Command with the assistance of the Dog Squad conducted a canvas of the area, however, no persons were located.
Inquiries have established that the rock was dropped from the top of a 25m cliff that overlooks Henry Lawson Drive approximately 100m east of The River Road.
Police have seized the rock for forensic examination.
Bankstown Police Area Command Duty officer, Inspector Matthew Waring, said the incident could have ended in a devastating tragedy.
"I think it is pure luck that the driver didn't suffer more serious injuries – or even worse," said Inspector Waring.
"The fact that someone has dropped a large rock from the top of a hill onto a random vehicle is beyond belief."
"We have commenced a major investigation into what has occurred, and we are seeking assistance from the public to help identify the individual or individuals who may have done this."
As investigations continue police are urging anyone who may have information about the matter – or were in the area at the time with any available dashcam/mobile phone footage – to contact Bankstown Police Area Command or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers: 1800 333 000 or https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au. Information is treated in strict confidence. The public is reminded not to report information via NSW Police social media pages.
