Police Seek Help To Locate Man After Assault On 86 Tram

Transit police officers are appealing for public assistance to help identify a man involved in an assault on a tram in Kingsbury in May.

It is understood the man was travelling on tram 86 along Plenty Road about 9.50pm on Saturday, 18 May.

The man was seen spitting on the ground and using racist language when the victim approached the tram driver to raise the alarm.

Officers have been told the man advanced toward the victim and grabbed him by the throat before other passengers intervened and removed the man from the tram at stop 58.

The victim, a 28-year-old Greensborough man, did not sustain any injuries.

A witness who intervened in the incident sustained a minor injury after the man hit him with a bag containing a skateboard.

Investigators have released images of a man who they believe may be able to assist them with their enquiries.

He is perceived as Caucasian in appearance, 175cm tall, with a thin build and wearing a jumper, brown cargo pants and a grey beanie.
