Police Seek Info in Lake Illawarra Road Rage Case

Police are appealing for information after receiving a report of a road rage incident in the Illawarra last month.

About 10.40pm on Monday 16 September 2024, an 18-year-old man was driving his silver Hyundai hatchback east on Tongarra Road, Albion Park.

Police were told a Ford Territory approached the Hyundai and flashed its lights, so the driver of the Hyundai pulled to the side of the road to let the car past.

Both cars continued and turned left onto the northbound lanes of the Princes Highway towards Wollongong.

The Ford then drove next to the Hyundai when the driver of the Hyundai sighted what appeared to be a nail gun or similar from the passenger side window of the Ford.

A short time later, the driver of the Hyundai was struck in the nose by an object, causing it to bleed.

The driver of the Ford drove off and the driver of the Hyundai travelled to nearby Hargraves Lane, Albion Park, where he stopped the vehicle and located an object believed to be a nail in the driver's side footwell.

As inquiries into the incident continue, officers from Lake Illawarra Police District have released CCTV images appealing for information about a car whose driver could assist with inquiries.

The vehicle is described as a white Ford Territory with black and white number plates.

Anyone with dashcam footage who was travelling on Tongarra Road, the Princes Highway and Station Street, Albion Park between 10:50pm and 11:05pm is urged to come forward and contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
