Police Seek Information After Break Ins At Moree

Police are appealing for information after they commenced an investigation into two break and enters in the state's north.

About 1.50am today (Friday 7 February 2025), officers attached to New England Police Area Command were called to a home in Cummins Avenue, Moree, following a report of an alleged break in.

An 80-year-old woman told police she awoke to find three people – wearing face coverings – who demanded her purse.

The men left with her car keys and drove away in a Kia Cerato. They also damaged her front door.

A short time later, police were called to a motel on Mungindi Road, Moree, where two people kicked in a door while a couple were sleeping.

The occupant of the room confronted the men, but they took keys to a Toyota Landcruiser, before they drove away in it.

No one was injured during the break-ins.

A short time later, police saw both vehicles in Moree, and when the drivers failed to stop as directed, pursuits were initiated.

Police terminated the pursuits and spikes were deployed, however the driver of the Toyota swerved towards police cars, causing officers to take evasive action.

About 4am, police found the Kia on fire in Anne Street, Moore, while the Toyota, which was not damaged, was located in Birawee Place, Moore.
