Police Seek Information On Theft In Alice Springs

Northern Territory Police are calling for information in relation to multiple incidents of copper wire theft from telecommunication access points in Alice Springs.

On numerous occasions since April 2024, police have received reports of copper wire being stolen from two telecommunication pits located between the Gap and Alice Springs Airport.

The telecommunication pits have allegedly been unlawfully accessed by unknown offenders, resulting in hundreds of meters of copper wire being pulled out, most likely via a large vehicle. Police believe the wire is subsequently cut into smaller segments for sale.

Telecommunication services have been disrupted due to the thefts.

Southern Investigations have carriage of the matter and investigations are continuing.
