Police Seek Tips on Katherine Assault

Northern Territory Police are calling for information after two males were assaulted in Katherine in the early hours of yesterday morning.

Shortly before 1:50am, the victims made their way to a petrol station on Katherine Terrace.

Upon leaving, the victims crossed Katherine Terrace and walked into Ryan Park. Around 1:50am, a white dual cab Nissan Patrol utility pulled up next to them and the driver and passenger exited the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle approached one of the victims and struck him once to the head, causing him to fall to the ground and become unconscious.

The driver and the passenger began to return to their vehicle when they were approached by the second victim. Words were exchanged and the driver and passenger got back into the vehicle, conducted an illegal u-turn and began to drive erratically through the park, attempting to run over the second victim, before exiting and assaulting the same victim with a blunt weapon. The offenders re-entered the vehicle and headed East on Katherine Terrace.

The vehicle returned a short time later to the petrol station where the victims were attempting to seek refuge from the offenders and call Emergency Services. The vehicle continued to circle the victims on Katherine Terrace before fleeing the scene.

A number of witnesses were captured on CCTV and police are urging them and anyone else with dash cam footage of the incident to make contact on 131 444 and quote reference NTP2400078157. Anonymous reports can also be made through Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via https://crimestoppersnt.com.au/.
