Police Seek Tips on Stolen Car in Tennant Creek

Northern Territory Police are calling for information in relation to a burglary and stolen motor vehicle incident that occurred in Tennant Creek over the weekend.

Sometime between Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 August, an unknown number of offenders have allegedly unlawfully entered a residence on Limonite Street in Tennant Creek and stolen keys to a black Toyota Camry.

Around 1.40am this morning, the unknown offenders have allegedly returned to the residence and stolen the vehicle, driving it through a fence while fleeing the scene. The victim was home at the time and immediately reported the incident to police.

A short time later, around 2.10am, a marked police car was driving north on Paterson Street when the alleged stolen motor vehicle drove past heading south on the same street. The vehicle allegedly turned around and proceeded to collide with the rear of the marked police car. No injury was caused to the police driver and the police vehicle received no damage from the collision.

Due to the dangerous driving of the vehicle, a police pursuit was not initiated.

At 2.25am the alleged stolen motor vehicle reportedly crashed on Peko Road.

Police responded immediately, but the unknown offenders had fled the crash scene and remain outstanding. No injuries have been reported to police at this stage.
