Police Seek Tips on Stolen Vehicles in Alice Springs 8 August

Northern Territory Police are calling for information in relation to multiple stolen motor vehicles in Alice Springs.

Around 3am this morning, an alleged stolen Toyota Hilux pulled alongside a stationary police vehicle along the Stuart Highway, just south of Heavy Tree Gap. The occupants of the Hilux allegedly threw rocks at the police vehicle, damaging the bodywork and driver's window.

The Hilux proceeded to allegedly turn towards the police vehicle, with police forced to take evasive action to avoid a collision.

The damaged police vehicle returned to the Alice Springs Police Station and none of the three police members inside the vehicle were injured in relation to the incident.

At 5.45am, the Joint Emergency Communications Centre received reports that the Hilux and two additional vehicles were pursuing a security vehicle after allegedly throwing rocks at it, causing damage. One of the additional vehicles was allegedly stolen earlier this morning from the same location as the Hilux.

The security vehicle was able to flee the scene with the occupant sustaining an injury to his hand.

The two stolen motor vehicles involved have subsequently been recovered by Strike Force Viper, however the unknown number of offenders remain outstanding.

Strike Force Viper are continuing investigations and urge anyone with information, including CCTV or dashcam footage, to contact 131 444 and quote reference NTP240007727.
